CAPE TOWN PRIDE ANNOUNCES ’07 THEME

Advertorial

The 2007 Cape Town Pride Festival will take place in February this year under the theme of “Carnival of Love”.

Organisers say that, “the ‘mother city will be filled with colour and flamboyance as the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gendered and intersexed (LGBTI) community takes part in 11 days of entertainment, education and enjoyment.”

The festival will run from 15 February until 25 February 2007 with over 35 events planned for the festival calendar. Details on the events have not yet been released.

Cape Town Pride, while smaller than its more controversy-laden Joburg cousin, has been lauded for its organisational credibility over the last few years.

Launched in 2001, Cape Town Pride is run by volunteers through a non-profit company which organises the event. Brian Kruger has been appointed as this year’s Festival Director.

According to the organisers, 2007’s event aims to significantly grow the financial success of Cape Town Pride and to further support its beneficiary, the Pride Shelter trust, which was established in 2005.

The aim of the Pride Shelter Trust is to provide a safe space through assistance and shelter to members of the LGBTI community in times of crisis. (Visit www.pridesheltertrust.co.za for further details.)
