GENDER DYNAMIX APPEALS FOR SUPPORT

Gender DynamiX has called on the community to support its emergency fund for trans-people in distress.

The organisation, which supports the rights of transsexuals in South Africa, said that trans people often face financial difficulties.

“Many times trans people are asked to leave their homes by family members when they come out as trans. In other instances it is difficult to find work and they cannot financially sustain themselves. A number of people in our community are unfairly dismissed at work when they come out as trans, or are outed.”

The emergency fund aims to provide financial support in these times of distress.

The organisation said that it is also launching the pilot of what it hopes will become an annual program, in which it aims to every year send one transgender youth back to school to complete Matric / grade 12.

Gender DynamiX said that it has often come across cases where trans youth do not complete school due to prejudice and bullying.

“This leads to a situation where trans people start out in life with a disadvantage,” added the organisation.

It called on members of the LGBT community to donate to one of the two programs, either on an ad-hoc or monthly basis, using the references “Emergency” or “Back2school”.
