REFRESHING YOUR LOOK

Advertorial

Ever wondered why your mother drilled it into you from a very early age to wash your face, comb your hair, put on a clean shirt, make sure you know how to tie a proper Windsor and polish your shoes? Because that’s the “boardroom look” and research has actually proven that your mom was right!

Within the first five seconds of meeting somebody, we will have judged a person and have decided whether they are successful, energetic, pay attention to detail or not.

This puts a whole new spin on whether we should consider our appearance or not. Pitching up at work with bags under your eyes might just send the wrong message!

Not all of us are born with smooth, wrinkle-free complexions, but with new advances in cosmetology, rejuvenation treatments are available that can transform our tired, puffy eyes into the fresh boardroom look.

The delicate skin below the eyes is thin and does not contain the same amount of oil glands as the rest of the body. It is therefore one of the first areas of the face to show age-related changes.

The skin around the eye gets dry and the padding over the orbital bone is reduced, thereby causing the skin of the lower eyelid to be pressed against the orbital bone and excess skin is formed. This results in the appearance of prominent eye bags and the development of crow’s feet. These changes are a constant reminder of the speed at which we age and can diminish an otherwise youthful appearance.

Powerful treatments are available to re-model this area and improve elasticity and collagen strength around the eyes. Restylane, a dermal filler, and Carboxytherapy are two rejuvenating treatments that provide non- surgical solutions to crow’s feet and to bags under the eyes.

Restylane Eye Rejuvenation

Restylane eye rejuvenation is a new technique by which the hollow tear trough is filled with hyaluronic acid. This will plump up the skin under the eye and will allow light to be reflected, thus improving the appearance of the crow’s feet and the eye bag effect.

This tear trough rejuvenation contours the lower eyelids in a safe and minimally invasive way and brings back a youthful volume. There is hardly any pain involved during the procedure and the best part is that results are instantaneous and last up to 24 months.

Carboxytherapy Eye Rejuvenation

Another new technology, known as Carboxytherapy, offers an alternative to Botox® for the improvement of crow’s feet, under eye bags and dark circles. By insufflating (filling) the lower eyelids and crow’s feet with carbon dioxide, blood flow and oxygenation to the area are increased, resulting in an improvement of the eyelid texture, crow’s feet and tissue luminosity.

This treatment causes mild discomfort that only lasts for 2 to 4 minutes. Because the results appear to be accumulative and permanent four to six treatments are needed at four week intervals.

Traditionally, the only option to rejuvenate the eye area has been eye lift surgery to remove excess skin and fatty bags. The new trend today is not to surgically remove excessive fat around the eye area as this can lead to a “hollowing” of the eyes a few years down the line.

With the advent of novel non- surgical treatments such as Restylane and Carboxytherapy, most of you can enjoy tightening around the eye area and obtain that much desired fresh “boardroom look.”
