Following much speculation, Live Nation and Big Concerts have confirmed that international pop superstar Rihanna is bringing her Diamonds World Tour to South Africa this spring.

The tour, which kicked off in North America last month, is set to dazzle local fans at concerts confirmed at FNB Stadium Johannesburg on Sunday 13 October and Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday 16 October.

Rihanna has performed in the country before. In 2006, the then up-and-coming star was the opening act for Jay-Z when he performed in South Africa.

The news has been described as the worst kept secret in South Africa. Last week Big concerts offered clues as to the identity of the female artist it said was coming to our shores and Heat magazine pre-empted today’s official announcement by declaring on Friday that it was Rihanna.

Rihanna has dominated global charts with Diamonds, the fastest-rising single of her career to date and first single to be release from Unapologetic, her seventh studio album in just seven years.

The recipient of six Grammy Awards® and seven Billboard Music Awards, Rihanna has sold over 41 million albums and 150 million digital tracks worldwide, and currently holds the record as the top-selling digital artist of all time.

Forbes named Rihanna the world’s number one social media star with over 2.9 billion views on YouTube/VEVO, the most ever for any female artist, over 63 million Facebook fans, and over 27 million Twitter followers.

In addition to her 12 Hot 100 number one singles and overall 24 Top 10 singles, she also has 18 number one singles on the Billboard Dance Club Song Charts.

Tickets for the Diamonds World Tour in South Africa will go on sale for Johannesburg on Thursday 11 April at 9am (priced R330 to R930) and in Cape Town on Friday 12th April at 9am (priced R275 – R820).

Tickets will be available from www.bigconcerts.co.za, www.computicket.com, the Computicket call centre on 0861 915 8000 or any Computicket outlet at Checkers and Shoprite.
