As we edge closer to the Pride season in Gauteng, more information is coming to light about the various Pride events that are set to take place in September and October in the province.

On Tuesday, the planning committee behind the 28 September Johannesburg Pride event confirmed that entertainment will commence at Mary Fitzgerald Square at 11am.

The parade through the city streets will begin at 12 in the afternoon.

The committee also announced that “the Official Johannesburg Pride After Party will be held at Mary Fitzgerald Square”. This will kick off after the parade and will continue up until 2am.

“A stunning line up of live performances followed by a fabulous line up of DJs taking the after party into the early hours of the morning” have been promised, along with “six safe and secure parkades within a secure two block radius.”

That same night, the city will also see the Fireman’s Ball unofficial after party taking place for the seventh year. Details have yet to be announced.

The following weekend, on 5 October, the People’s Pride will take place in Johannesburg. More information about this event will be revealed this coming Saturday at a public launch meeting at Constitution Hill from 10am.

Currently four Pride events will be taking place in Gauteng, a number of which will clash:

• 21 September: Ekurhuleni Pride

• 28 September: Soweto Pride AND the 24th Johannesburg Pride

• 5 October: Johannesburg People’s Pride AND Pretoria Pride
