In happier days: Perez Hilton and Lady Gaga

Pop star Lady Gaga has accused her former BFF gossip blogger Perez Hilton of stalking her in a bizarre online war of words.

The two were firm friends for years and Hilton was a vocal champion of the singer’s music and unique style on his popular blog.

More recently it’s become clear that the two have had a significant falling out, although neither has revealed what happened.

Hilton now regularly slams Gaga at every opportunity and has been critical of her antics and new music.

Last week Friday, Gaga tweeted: “Still have the text Perez sent me of me in a wheelchair w the words KARMA written across + Madonna pointing a gun at me. Day of my accident.”

Then on Sunday, she wrote: “@perezhilton STAY AWAY FROM ME + MY FAMILY YOU ARE SICK TRYING TO RENT AN APARTMENT IN MY BUILDING TO STALK ME. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!”

In response, Hilton, who became the father of a surrogate baby in February, issued a statement about “Lady Gaga’s lies”.

He said that he had been house-hunting for his planned move from Los Angeles to New York and admitted to having viewed an apartment in the building in which Gaga lives.

He insisted, however, that at the time he had no idea that the star, whose new single Applause has failed to top the charts in the US, lived there.

“After a day of innocent house-hunting, I am devastated and my heart hurts that my former very good friend, a person I used to call my ‘wifey’ and traveled the world with, is making very public and very untrue allegations about me on Twitter,” said Hilton.

“While it is still too painful for me to go into detail about why I chose to no longer make her a part of my life, I will say that I am a critic and not a ‘stalker’.”

He also said that Gaga’s comments on twitter had led her fans to send him death threats.

“Any allegation that I am stalking her, based on a day of house hunting with my baby boy and my mother, is utterly false, defamatory and now appears to be putting me and my family in danger.”

He went on to say: “I will continue to be a critic – in a way that is not mean or involves name-calling, and I will continue to have an opinion and talk about music and songs, like GaGa’s Applause. I hope her fans stop sending me death threats, as the suggestion that I pose a danger to Lady GaGa is preposterous.

“If her fans want to send a message of support to Lady GaGa, they should buy her music. Notwithstanding my feelings about our personal relationship, I do wish Lady GaGa happiness and continued success and I assure you my family house hunting has nothing to do with her,” said Hilton.
