How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris has finally married his partner of 10 years, David Burtka, in a surprise wedding in Europe.

The actor announced the news on Twitter, stating: “Guess what? @DavidBurtka and I got married over the weekend. In Italy. Yup, we put the ‘n’ and ‘d’ in ‘husband’.”

He also posted a picture of the two love-birds silhouetted against the sky during the ceremony. The couple reportedly wore matching Tom Ford tuxedos.

The two men have been dating since 2004 and are raising three-year-old twins, Gideon Scott, a boy, and Harper Grace, a girl, both of whom took part in the wedding.

US talk show host Kelly Ripa, who attended the wedding, spoke about the nuptials on Live! With Kelly and Michael on Monday.

She described the event as a “a beautiful family affair” in a rented castle in Perugia, Italy, which featured Elton John performing and fireworks.

“The food was amazing. There were magic tricks, because, you know Neil is way into magic. Their wedding vows were so beautiful,” Ripa said.

The couple have been engaged for some time. In 2011, Harris and Burtka announced that they had formally gotten engaged, also revealing that they had first proposed to each other five years earlier.

The Emmy-award-winning Harris, 41, is known for his roles in Doogie Howser, M.D., How I Met Your Mother and the recent Smurfs movies. He was named as one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2010, and was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2011

Burtka, 39, is also an actor and a chef and runs a Los Angeles catering company.
