It’s been reported that the alleged murderer of lesbian Duduzile Zozo may get away with a plea deal sentence.

Lekgoa Lesley Motleleng is accused of strangling and raping Zozo with a toilet brush in June last year after she refused to kiss him.

The 26-year-old openly lesbian woman’s brutalised body was found in Thokoza, east of Johannesburg, just metres from her home.

Before he was arrested, Motleleng attended a vigil the night before Zozo’s funeral and even comforted her grieving family.

On Friday, The Star revealed that he is negotiating a plea bargain that could see Motleleng serve a more lenient sentence in return for admitting to her murder.

State prosecutor Mahlubi Ntlakaza told the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on Thursday that a deal may be in the offing.

Activists and Zozo’s mother, Thuziwe, who believe that a life sentence is in order, fear that Motleleng could get as little as five to ten years in prison.

He set to appear in court again on Wednesday where details of the possible agreement may be revealed.
