Sam Smith scores at the Grammys

Advertorial

sam_smith_scores_at_grammysBritish music sensation Sam Smith has become the first-ever openly LGBT performer to win a Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Album for his In the Lonely Hour.

Smith, who came out in May last year, went on to win three other Grammys, including Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Record of the Year for Stay With Me (Darkchild Version).

“I just wanna say that before I made this record, I was doing everything to try to get my music heard … I tried to lose weight and I was making awful music. It was only until I started to be myself that the music started to flow and people started to listen,” Smith told the audience at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on Sunday night while accepting his award for best pop vocal.

The 22-year-old star went on to add later: “I want to thank the man who this record is about who I fell in love with last year. Thank you so much for breaking my heart, because you got me four Grammys.”
