A well known 71-year-old gay Pretoria man has been brutally murdered in his home, leaving behind a teenage son.

Chris Orban, a real estate agent, was found gravely wounded with head injuries in his Waterkloof home on Saturday afternoon by a handyman.

According to Brooklyn police spokeswoman Captain Colette Weilbach, he was taken to hospital but died from his injuries on Sunday.

“According to information, the old man brought a homeless man to his house earlier on Saturday,” Weilbach said in a statement.

Orban’s light green Hyundai Tucson, a mountain bicycle and a plasma television are missing. There was no sign of forced entry.

Weilbach told Mambaonline that it was not known why Orban had brought the man home but that this was being investigated. The suspect is still at large.

Orban reportedly had an adopted 13-year-old son. Friends and family took to his Facebook page to express their outrage and sadness at his tragic death.

“Chris’s young son is doing well and comfortable under the circumstances and is surrounded by people who care deeply for him. We assume that people are conscientious and responsible and therefore ask that Chris and Kgomotso’s privacy be respected at this time to allow for healing,” reads a post from a friend, Tebogo Ramatjie.

Anyone who can assist the police with information can contact Warrant Officer Frank Radue on 012 366 1764 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
