Michael Sam and Vito Cammisano: is the engagement off?

After a mysterious two week absence, openly gay football player Michael Sam has returned to his Canadian team.

Sam, who made headlines after he came out last year, signed with the Montreal Alouettes in May, but soon after requested leave to return home without any public explanation.

Last week, he rejoined the team, but has stayed mum on the reason for the long absence.

According to the rumour mill, however, he left to deal with problems in his relationship with fiancé Vito Cammisano.

The then-lovebirds famously made headlines when they shared an emotional kiss on live television when it was announced that Sam had been drafted to the NFL.

The couple, who met in college, got engaged six month ago in Rome, but things appear to have taken a turn for the worse.

TMZ has pointed out that the two men have not been seen together in almost two months and Cammisano has been spotted not wearing his engagement ring.

Most telling of all, perhaps, the football star has reportedly removed the picture of his engagement to Cammisano at St. Peter’s Basilica from his social media accounts.

Meanwhile, the Canadian media is reporting that Sam’s teammates and officials are fed up with his hogging the limelight because of his sexual orientation, commenting anonymously that he has yet to prove himself as a player.
