Justice Cameron to speak on African LGBTI rights at Wits

South Africa’s openly gay and HIV positive Constitutional Court Justice Edwin Cameron will speak about LGBTI+ rights in Africa at Wits University in August.

The always enlightening and insightful Cameron is also expected to address the role of activism in the fight for equality in society.

There will be an interactive question and answer session after the talk, which is titled “Pride and Peril: LGBTIAQ+ Rights in Africa today – a personal perspective by Justice Edwin Cameron.”

The event is being hosted by LGBTI campus groups Activate Wits and UJ Liberati, together with the Wits Transformation and Employment Equity Office, Wits SRC Transformation Office and Drama For Life.

Apart from being an accomplished judge, Cameron is also an author and LGBTI+ and HIV and AIDS advocate who has dedicated his efforts in the fight for equality for all and ensuring that there is free treatment for those living with HIV.

Cameron’s address takes place on Friday, 7 August at 12:30 for 13:00 till 14:00. Don’t miss this opportunity to see and hear one of South Africa’s iconic figures in person.
