Pretoria Pride 2015: Pride without Prejudice

Advertorial

pretoria_pride_2015The third annual Pretoria Pride returns to Centurion on Saturday the 3rd of October, under the theme of “Pride without Prejudice”.

Taking place at the Centurion Rugby Club from 9am, it promises to be the young Pride’s biggest and boldest outing yet.

According to organiser Bruce Walker, this year’s theme is meant to highlight prejudice not only towards the LGBT community but also the prejudice within it.

“There is prejudice in the community but we need to stand together,” he said. “We want Pretoria Pride to be inclusive of everybody.”

Walker continued: “We don’t stand together any more. The gay community is too fragmented by race and other factors. We must show the youth what we can do and that we have a community.”

The event will offer a flea market, cash bars (from 10am), food stalls and live entertainment. There will be a Bearfest men’s only bar and a women’s only bar.

Artists on the entertainment line-up include recently out singer Leroi, the Magic Mike SA dancers and a raft of DJs on the decks.

The parade, which was around 5,000-strong last year, will start at 12pm.

Walker said the community can expect an improved event. “The layout is much better – we are learning every year from the past and improving it all the time.”

“It’s also close to the Gautrain so it’s easy for visitors from Johannesburg to attend,” he added.

General entrance is free. You’re welcome to bring camping chairs and picnic blankets.

It’s likely to be hot day, so remember to come armed with sunscreen, a cap or hat, and sunglasses.

VIP club house tickets, which include limited parking, VIP bar and toilets and a great view of the event, are also available at R120 (pre-sale) and R160 on the day. To book yours, e-mail walker on brucewalker@iburst.co.za.

Stalls and float forms can be found on the Pretoria Pride website.

Babylon in Centurion will host the official after-party, the Military Ball, that same night. Doors open at 6pm.

Pretoria Pride will be preceded by the Fagfest festival and the Mr and Miss Pretoria Gay Pride pageant.
