Trump ignores Pride Month, Ivanka blasted when she steps in

Advertorial

Reflecting once again the vast difference between him and his predecessor, President Donald Trump has failed to proclaim June as LGBTQ Pride Month in the US.

Pride is traditionally celebrated in the country in June, marking the June 28, 1969 Stonewall riots in New York City; seen by many as the start of the LGBTQ rights movement.

In 2009, Barack Obama became the first US president to formally commemorate Pride Month at the start of June, and continued to officially declare it as such throughout his presidency.

As of the 2nd of June, President Trump has not mentioned Pride or the LGBTQ community in any of his communications.

His daughter, Ivanka Trump, did however tweet: “…wishing everyone a joyful #Pride2017. This month we celebrate and honor the #LGBTQ community.

“I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy.”

The First Daughter was quickly lambasted on social media for her hypocrisy. “You openly supported and campaigned for the most anti-LGBTQ+ presidential ticket in recent times. Your words mean nothing to us,” tweeted @jordansdiamonds.

“I’m sorry, but if you had any LGBTQ friends before your father got into office, I suspect a vanishingly small proportion are still there,” said Tom Coates (@tomcoates).

Tracy E. Gilchrist‏ (@TracyEGilchrist) chimed in with: “I’d thank you for your tweet but I’m kind of busy getting deprogrammed in conversion therapy.”

Actress Christina Applegate (@1capplegate) added: “Your dad is reversing the rights for this beautiful group of humans. You ok with that?”

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) – the largest US LGBTQ rights group – has, in response to the Trump administration’s anti-LGBTQ agenda, proclaimed June as “#UniteResistEnlist Month”.

The group noted that, “Donald Trump has launched a crusade against LGBTQ rights and progress by appointing anti-LGBTQ activists across his Administration, rescinding guidance regarding schools’ obligations to transgender students, pushing an unconstitutional Muslim ban and draconian deportation policies, inviting his cabinet to create a #LicenseToDiscriminate, proposing dangerous cuts to critical health care programs and research, and erasing LGBTQ people in federal data collection…”

It said that it is now “committed to empower and mobilize millions of equality voters to fight back against attacks that undermine the LGBTQ community through a nationwide Summer of Action anchored by more than 250 grassroots events…”
