The Absolutely Fabulous (ABFAB) Drag Show is back by popular demand and will be making its return to the Artscape Women’s Humanity Arts Festival on August 11 this year.
Cape Town is known as one of the homes of South Africa’s drag culture, specifically in District Six, and ABFAB is looking forward to putting the creme de la creme of drag on centre stage at the Artscape Theatre Centre.
With fine feathers preened, false eyelashes fluttering and sequins glittering, the fiercely feminine/masculine are gathering to celebrate the world of `lip sync`, ambiguous seduction and gender identification. The enigmatic Odidi Mfenyana comperes the evening, and the show will pay tribute to the late Reverend Rowan Smith. A surprise special guest also awaits you.
Top class drag divas, including Vida Fantabisher, SA’s Got Talent 2016 runner-up Manila von Teez, as well as Kat Gilardi, Jayde Kay Johnson and Angel Lalamore, of cabaret 3D Trio Fame, will showcase present-day talent.
The Women’s Humanity Arts Festival, of which the show is part, will be celebrating its 12th year, with humanity being the central theme, running from the first until the eighth of August. The objective of the festival is to provide a platform for women and disabled people who come from grassroot communities to celebrate their livelihoods.
The festival will host a variety of outstanding theatre productions, entrepreneurial workshops, health screenings, legal workshops, talks, exhibitions, and also a humanity walk.
Tickets for the ABFAB Show and other theatre production are on sale on Computicket or Artscape Dial-A-Seat. For more information on the festival, visit the website or Facebook page.
