Ellen is furious that sexual abuse victims like her are dismissed

Ellen DeGeneres has expressed her anger at how sexual assault victims, such as herself, are often ridiculed and not believed.

In an interview with Today’s Savannah Guthrie, the talk show host was asked how she feels about how American is being divided by the subject, fuelled in large part by Donald Trump’s sexism.

“As a victim of sexual abuse, I am furious at people who don’t believe it and who say, ‘How do you not remember exactly what day it was?'” DeGeneres said. “You don’t remember those things. What you remember is what happened to you, where you were, and how you feel. That’s what you remember.”

She continued: “I was 15 years old. I’m not even going into the details — it doesn’t matter — but we are really vulnerable at that age, and we trust.

“And then when you are violated, you don’t know what to do and you don’t want to say anything because first of all, you just start wondering, ‘How did this happen, how was I that stupid?’ All of these things you think you could have controlled and you can’t.”

DeGeneres slammed President Trump for mocking Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who recently testified that Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her.

At a campaign rally in Mississippi on Tuesday, Trump ridiculed Ford’s testimony and inability to remember some details of events she alleges happened 36 years ago. “How did you get home?” he said sarcastically, repeating some of the questions asked of her. “‘I don’t remember.’ How did you get there? ‘I don’t remember.’ Where is the place? ‘I don’t remember.’ How many years ago was it? ‘I don’t know.’ What neighborhood was it? ‘I don’t know.’ Where’s the house? ‘I don’t know.'”

“This is not political,” said DeGeneres. “This really isn’t. It’s got nothing to do with being Republican or Democrat or anything. It’s just about respect and someone who is the leader of our country who is mocking someone who was abused. You don’t do that. You don’t mock somebody.”
