Miss Gay Western Cape, one of the country’s biggest drag events, will celebrate 10 years of existence, with a few trips down memory lane. The event, being held on Saturday, 3 November, is already sold out; the tenth year in a row!

The theme for 2018 is “Remembering the Decade,” and the finalists will have the opportunity to choose any one of the themes from the nine previous years to showcase in the Theme Wear section.

Event organiser Barry Reid commented: “What a journey! Over the years the pageant has changed many lives, launched many a drag career, and assisted in lifting the profile of the drag community. Long may it continue!”

The 2018 finalists will be judged in the categories of Pre-Judging, Swim Wear, Theme Wear and Evening Wear. Thereafter a Top 5 will be selected and the judges will have the opportunity to ask a question. Once this is complete, all scoring from the start to the end will be added together and a new Queen will be crowned.

Entertainment this year sees the return of favourites that have graced the stage over the past ten years, including Idols SA winner Karin Kortje, SA’s Got Talent runner up Manila von Teez and drag diva Angel Lalamore. “We are also excited to have for the first time on our stage the talented Ina Propriette who we are sure the crowd will thoroughly enjoy,” said Reid.

The pageant will take place at the Joseph Stone Auditorium in Athlone (where it all began) .
