ENTRY FOR MR. GAY SA 2012/2013 OPENS
Thu, 21 June 2012
Organisers of Mr. Gay South Africa™ have announced that entries are now being accepted for the 2012/2013 competition, with the winner taking part in Mr. Gay World.
The event's director of operations Coenie Kukkuk urged applicants to "please study the entry form on the website www.mrgsa.co.za very carefully before entering".
He added: “The rules are strict and the competition is tough. We would not have won Mr. Gay World twice and first runner-up this year if it was not. There is no reason that we can not win it for a third time – and we have to do well as all eyes are always on ‘the South African’!”
Mr. Gay South Africa says that it is a "professional, upmarket competition for gay men in South Africa".
It aims to find "a role model and a noticeable representative of which the entire LGBTI (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and intersex) community can be proud of".
The competitors are selected through regional judging, which shortlists the participants to ten national finalists. Five additional finalists are also chosen by the directors, based on merit and cooperation.
Judging consists of written tests, interviews and assessing the applicants’ appearance, photogenicity and their ability to represent themselves and the LGBT community.
The final 15 finalists will be announced at a gala dinner on 5 Oct and will be introduced to the community at Joburg Pride on 6 Oct.
The winner of Mr. Gay South Africa 2012/2013 will be revealed at a glittering Grand Finale in Pretoria on Saturday 8 December at the new, state-of-the-art Atterbury Theatre in Lynnwood Bridge, Pretoria.
Finalists will win and receive prizes and goodies from sponsors as well as individual prizes such as Model of the Year and prizes for the top five. The total prize value last year exceeded R300 000.
The winner will represent South Africa at Mr. Gay World 2013 in August 2013 in Antwerp, Belgium.
South Africa has been the most successful participating country since the Mr. Gay World competition was launched in 2009.
In 2010, Charl van den Berg took the international title in Oslo, Norway and in 2011 Francois Nel won in Manila, Philippines. Last year, the current Mr. Gay South Africa, Lance Weyer, came in second place at the Mr. Gay World ceremony held in Johannesburg.
