THE BUS
Sun, 22 July 2012
All aboard for the South African premiere of James Lantz' s thought provoking play The Bus which is on in Cape Town at the Milnerton Playhouse from July 20 to 28.
It’s a story that is both touching and suspenseful, exploring sexual awakenings against the background of powerful church influences.
Jordan and Ian are the main characters; two boys who regularly rendezvous in a parked bus that belongs to the most powerful church in town, Golden Rule.
Late at night, they meet to explore sexual feelings that are at once awkward, humorous, and kept from the light of day.
When their secret meeting place is in danger of being discovered, the boys find themselves caught in a conflict between Golden Rule and a gas station owned by Ian's father - and the clash proves explosive. It is a touching tale that swirls with suspense.
The Bus was first performed off Off-Broadway in New York City in 2011 and received rave reviews.
Making his directorial debut is Wayne Hendricks who has gathered together a committed and enthusiastic cast. While the majority are making their acting debut, the Milnerton Players are known for their professional productions.
The Bus stars Timothy Mayers, Darin Graham, Johann van der Merwe, Robynn Bensch, Coleen Tapson and Barry Altwig.
