What's On - On Stage
QUEEN AT THE BALLET IN CAPE TOWN
Sun, 22 July 2012
Following a sold-out season at Oude Libertas earlier this year, Bovim Ballet brings back Sean Bovim's Queen at the Ballet, this season being staged at the Baxter Theatre for a limited season from the 8th to the 18th of August.
Queen at the Ballet uses the athleticism of rock ballet en-pointe in a high impact production that will entertain people of all ages, with Tender pas de deux interspersed with exciting rocking group numbers.
As audiences have come to expect from Bovim Ballet productions, the show is packed with high artistic standards, innovative and original choreography, and powerful performances from the strong cast of dancers.
Michael Hankinson's exquisite recorded orchestral arrangements of Queen's music are further enhanced by the live gymnastic vocals of Cito (of Wonderboom and Jesus Christ Superstar fame), Daniel Fisher (Fiddler on the Roof) and Goitsemang Lehobye.
This hit show tells the story of the great pretender, Freddie Mercury, told through the medium of dance. Set to over 20 of his greatest hits - including, amongst others, Who Wants to Live Forever, Another One Bites the Dust and Barcelona - audience members will be taken on a journey of the fascinating life of one of the world's greatest singers.
Henk Opperman dances the role of Freddie while his lovers are portrayed by Devon Marshbank, Tanya Futter, Nicola Van der Merwe and Faye Dubinski.
Bovim’s production is also a fusion of fashion and dance through collaborations with designers such as Malcolm Klûk & CGDT, Craig Port, Ian West, Gavin Rajah and Danielle Margaux.
Performances are from 8 to 18 August at the Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch. Tickets range from R150 – R180 and can be booked through Computicket at www.computicket.com or by calling the Baxter Box Office directly on 021 685 7880.
