FIREMAN'S BALL 2012 GOES INTERNATIONAL
Wed, 29 August 2012
Fireman's Ball, the gay pride after-party, has over the past six years become Africa's biggest gay Pride bash, bringing together gay girls and boys, fag hags and straight party-goers under one roof in Joburg.
This year sees the Fireman’s Ball at a new venue, with a massive stage, better lights, more décor and a huge drawcard of performers and DJs, local and international.
The Gaydar.co.za Fireman's Ball 2012 powered by People Magazine is, for the first time, going international and bringing Swedish pop star, Ola to South Africa! And this time 'round, the annual party comes to you in a huge new venue, fully loaded with designated experiential "G-Spots" plus Golden Circle, VIP & VVIP play zones.
The bash takes place on Saturday 6 October at Rivonia Junction Basement, from 9 p.m. till late.
"Dress-up, dress-down or cross-dress - just make sure you have your dancing shoes on because no one goes home until the sun comes up at the annual Fireman's Ball," said promoter Pieter Rossouw.
Joining Ola on stage are 5fm darlings Roger Goode, DJ Fresh and Poppy Ntshongwana. And who knows, you may also catch Spin Bad or Stuart Hillary in full drag on decks! This is the party event of the year and whether you're straight, gay or just plain confused, you better be ready to shake your bum bum...
The Fireman's Ball was born in 2007 and selected as the first "gay" event supported by 5fm. Featuring the best local DJs, top-end sound, lighting, production design and other quality production elements, Fireman's Ball is known as the biggest gay Pride after party in Africa.
To date, the event has grown to attract a record-breaking audience of almost 3000 people and there is no doubt that 2012 will supersede this.
Tickets start at R120 from www.ticketspace.co.za.
Over the past few years Ola has topped the Swedish charts with seven gold and platinum-selling singles. The Swedish Grammy nominated artist is now stepping out onto the world stage. He has released his first internationally acclaimed single All Over The World in many countries, including the US and UK.
Ola was planning to become a professional footballer but it was his passion for music that won out in the end. "Football is like art and it is still very important to me but music is everything", he said.
Ola has been nominated numerous times at Swedish music award shows, for categories including Best Male Artist, Best Album and Best Song and in 2008 he won Best Song of the year at the prestigious Rockbjörnen Event.
In 2010, Ola established his own label, Oliniho Records, allowing him the creative freedom to develop his own ideas. Working with people who shared his passion, he released his third album independently. The venture proved a massive success when his self-released album OLA went straight to the top of the charts and was a critical success.
He said: "Previously I felt that it was sometimes difficult to really be myself, although I do not regret any of what I have done so far. With the freedom I have today I think it is easier to follow my own direction and I can develop both my artistry and my songwriting in a more natural way."
Today Ola and Oliniho Records are releasing Ola's music in many countries on several labels. Ola and All Over the World have been attracting fans and trendsetters on the international music scene and influential media personalities like Perez Hilton have praised both the single and video. Clubs, radio stations and bloggers all over the world have jumped on board too.
2012 began with Ola's first promotional tour of the US to support the release of All Over The World. Whilst there, he also found the time to shoot the video for his brand new single I'm in Love, the first from his upcoming fourth studio album, on which he is currently working. I'm in Love was released in Sweden on 7th May 2012 and after just a few hours it reached the number 1 spot on Swedish iTunes.
Ola is now stepping outside Sweden's borders and reaching out to the rest of the world. In July 2012 Ola and Oliniho Records signed a deal with Sony Music for the whole of Europe where the first release will be I'm in Love.
