Gay Cape Town will be celebrating the arrival of Spring on Saturday 22 September at the Equinox Spring Festival taking place in the heart of the Mother City’s Gay Village. A day of fun and frivolity will be taking place in sectioned-off areas of Napier, Cobern and Liddle Streets.
There will be two stages with great live entertainment, ranging from bands, singers, dancing boys, drag artistes, fashion shows and some of the city’s best club DJs.
Live acts include SHENFM, Manila von Tee, Johnson & Minnie, Princess Pop, Anna Torna Highman, Roxy le Roux, Victoria Caballaire and the Skinny Bitches. DJs include Charl Zero, January One, Cee Smooth and DJ Ariee.
The theme and dates for the Cape Town Pride 2013 festival will be announced on the day.
And, following the success of this year’s Cape Town pride in March, the organisation is in the happy position to make a substantial donation to the Pride Shelter Trust, Africa’s first and only autonomous shelter and crisis centre for gay people. A cheque will be presented to the shelter, which is CT Pride’s chosen beneficiary, on the day.
So, celebrate the Spring Equinox in style. It’s the Heritage Day long weekend after all. Doors open at 1.00 p.m. and the event will close at 10 p.m., whereupon the party will carry on late into the night in the bars all throughout the village. Entry is R40.
