George Clooney
Hollywood star George Clooney is auctioning himself off to raise money for America’s Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which works to ensure safe schools for LGBT students.

A lunch with Clooney and entertainment writer Dave Karger at the Exclusive Soho House West Hollywood is one of the items on offer in the organisation’s online auction.

The prize, valued at $20,000, has received three bids thus far, the highest to the value of $6,500. Bidding will remain open until 11 October.

Other items on offer in the auction include guest roles in the TV shows American Horror Story and True Blood, a lunch with Glenn Close, as well as a visit to the set of Modern Family.

Clooney has been long-time supporter of the LGBT community and of same-sex marriage rights. Earlier this year, he described the gay rights struggle in America as "the final leg of the civil rights movement".

The 51-year-old actor and director has previously expressed his backing for same-sex marriage rights, stating that “It is astonishing that gay and lesbian Americans are still treated as second-class citizens”.
