I couldn’t agree more with how sad it is that everything in life has become pink. As a boy I always wanted to wear pink and I was therefore quite ecstatic when the first pink pieces of clothing started hitting the shelves. Limited as they might have been, I selectively started acquiring odds and ends in the colour until one day in December – while on holiday in Cape Town – I opened up my suitcase and realised that all my t-shirts are pink… And not that different from each other. Coming from the fashion industry I was appalled at my own commercialised wardrobe. Everything everywhere has turned into pink. The final straw? A shockingly awful shade of pink used for Motorola’s V3 Razr-phone. But resistance isn’t futile. One can escape the curse of pink. I for one have now started investing in clothing pieces that are green. The only problem is that it doesn’t look half bad with pink…

Pink is in – Literally & Figuratively . …this was my phrase a couple of months ago to my lover while sitting in the ever so orange popular eating spot in the rosebank mall, watching all those pink and blue people hanging out without a hint of tension.

I have to say i am secretly amused by how much “pink-ness” has taken over. More than just the colour- the pink associations with homosexuality have been re-inforced and even celebrated. It’s amazing how “fashionable” it has become to have something pink- even if it’s at least one gay friend- all of a sudden every one needs at least one gay acquintance – it’s a necessary accessory!

There are more references to “pink” in popular (and unpopular) media than there has ever been before. It still makes me cringe a little (so i have sexuality issues!)- but the cringe is no longer so painful!

But I will still not be caught wearing anything pink!

green is the new pink. Milkybarz, good for you on the green, I’ve also moved onto green as the colour of the moment. But basically we’re not bucking any trends, we’re just picking up the next one sooner than most, just like we did with pink.
