Spelling. It would be nice if MambaOnline took more care in the sub-editing of its stories ... this review could do with a spell and grammar check. The film certainly is not called "Tsosti", and that's just one example.

I agree. Hey jhbscorpio. You're quite right! It’s not good enough. I could give you excuses about the extremely limited time and resources we’re afforded in running a site like this in SA, but I won't. We'll endeavour to do better. Something to consider though: the more support we get from the community the better a website we can offer ? and that extends from gay-business advertisers to any eager volunteer proof readers out there. Sign up now! ;) - Ed

Are you smoking something?. I assume Christo talks about the subtitles when he says '...when it comes down to the script the film lacks those qualities that will make you want to see it again.'
Clearly, he is not familiar, nor understands, the intricate township colloquial dialect used, and the use of no less than 4 South African indigenous languages during dialogue. Please, don't be drawn into the limitations of subtitles! I, and many others, will see it again.

Max and Mona was a completey different genre, and trying to substantiate your point by drawing the actors' performances in that film, and their competence to one genre, is typecasting them. Yes, they might be familiar to an audience, and that's simply because they are excellent actors. I have seen them in many other roles, and they cannot be typecasted. It's like saying, oh yes, because Halle Berry acted as Catwoman, she would always be associated as such when starring in other roles. Ludicrous!

Just as we run to see films from Europe and the US, so should we for every South African film. I'm not in any way implying that you're discouraging people from seeing South African films, for the record. Tsotsi should be celebrated.

By the way, all of my friends loved it. And so it seems with everyone who lives in a township. Surprisingly, it moved some of us to tears.

Thofi Bishop
Sela!
b
