AMBIGUOUS?. I read both books that won and must say that Edwin Cameron’s had more substance and was a good insight into the state of the epidemic in SA and the world. It’s hard to be non-judgmental about things but it is strange that Adam writes a book on HIV/AIDS and at the same see’s himself as a ‘voice’ in terms of creating awareness around HIV/AIDS issues yet does not really send out a clear message on issues such as promsicuity etc………is the decadent, irresponsible lifestyle still there?
There are truly thousands of people dying of HIV/AIDS and none of them have the privlege of rich parents/friend or means to get the required drugs………….as a memoir (and possibly literary work) its has merits……..as a ‘voice’ which is meant to be inspiring or certainly have messaging which is relevant to the management of the epidemic……..it just seems to be all about Adam…………..
