Try Jimmy's prawns!. Eighty odd bucks for two prawns in a fancy sauce? A hundred odd for a leg of duck?

I presume the reviewer left with shares of the restaurant?

I enjoyed the review immensely but felt the restaurant lives up to the other name it has earned - one of a pretentiously expensive venue catering for a certain mind set.

Now I on the other hand, had almost 50 prawns (and could have had more for the same price, had my gluttony had no limits) at Jimmy's Prawns (about R90) in Brooklyn, which had absolutely none of the prestige of previous diners', nor the decidedly added advantage (?) of a dissolute past to lend the venue 'character' as Le Canard has.

At their prices and attitude, I am decidedly 'un poulet' when it comes to Le Canard!

I presume the reviewer left with shares of the restaurant?

I enjoyed the review immensely but felt the restaurant lives up to the other name it has earned – one of a pretentiously expensive venue catering for a certain mind set.

Now I on the other hand, had almost 50 prawns (and could have had more for the same price, had my gluttony had no limits) at Jimmy’s Prawns (about R90) in Brooklyn, which had absolutely none of the prestige of previous diners’, nor the decidedly added advantage (?) of a dissolute past to lend the venue ‘character’ as Le Canard has.

At their prices and attitude, I am decidedly ‘un poulet’ when it comes to Le Canard!

A prawn by any other name... At the risk of exchanging metaphors, one swallow certainly doesn't make a summer. So after reading SWAN's feedback about 'flowery gump' (my prawns at the Brooklyn Jimmys were hardly that!), I decided to try another prawn dish at Jimmy's (wouldn't want my single and subjective review to be the benchmark).

This time round, I ordered the Oriental, shelled prawns. Sorry Swan but palates may differ - they were delicious! So I called the manager over and asked him where he got his prawns from. Certainly not from Flowery Gumpville. No indeed, he doesn't even get them from Mocambique! (Apparently too unreliable) but he actually IMPORTS them from India..

And the clincher?? The price was STILL not approximately 80 bucks for TWO prawns and a fancy sauce.
