I enjoyed your article and wondered if you had heard more about Fiat releasing the ‘Topolino’ – a retro-new version of the 500 – a la new Mini and Beetle? I saw pictures a year back but can find no update. It looked sensational and I would be a very interested buyer. Fiat SA seem clueless.

Fiat 500. Not much information is available on the reincarnation of the Fiat 500 – or Topolino – at the moment. What is known is that Fiat will collaborate with Ford on the reincarnation, and it will share underpinnings with the next Ford Ka whilst being based on the Fiat Panda platform. Its expected debut is somewhere in September of this year. It will definitely “compete” with other retro cars like the Beetle and MINI but will probably be considerately more affordable – speculation hints at a pricetag of about ?5000.
