I think this obsession with the media in ‘outing’ public figures is disgusting.

Who gives a fuck other than the lustful little queens that take pleasure in buggering up someone else’s life so that they end up feeling vindicated.

So the man is lying … to himself, his family, his company? That is between him and those around him whose lives his lies are impacting.

What the fuck has it got to do with anyone?

It doesn’t … but that won’t stop the spite anyway because that is what we do. Tear people down who are better than us because in doing that we feel better about ourselves.

Usually gay people divulge this to cause irrevocable harm to those people who choose not to make a fuss – it takes more to be comfortable with yourself to be a billboard and cry for a collective.

Im not denying the efforts made by gay liberation but sometimes the closet is fitted very comfortably.

As a previous Editor of the largest newspaper it happened to me too that a fellow gay person were to cause me great damage by divulging my homosexuality to very conservative and narrow minded people.

This caused the work that I have done to be diminshed and leaving one hurt and issues unresolved for many years. Even my straight colleagues felt it was malicious and immoral to split on a person if he chooses to get the job done in stead of flapping about about a lifestyle choice.

Im sorry for Lord Browne as there was probably attemps by Chevalier to blackmail him. I understand the fear and pain

The ultimate problem in South Africa especially is that we continue to lve in a super conservative society. Yes it’s much better than previous decades, but it’s still a huge step to ocme out. I’m very definitely out but I can understand that some people choose not to be. My coming out was ultimately my decision. I wasn’t forced. The converse should also be true. It’s a human rights issue and I believe that the people who forced him violated that.

Outing!. Tatchell has a point that he benefits from the work and openness by others whom have come out resulint in a more tolerant society – but as an activist myself, it is my decision to be out to to influence public opinion – it is up to each person to decide on the level of his/her own openness in society – and that needs to be respected. Well known people or personailities have the same right to privacy that everyone else has!
