Sushi on a soapbox. Thanks for doing the dining out public a service regarding new dining experiences in and around Johannesburg.

There's a big however attached to this: due to overfishing, pollution, etc, the planet's oceans are degraded to such an extent that limits have had to be placed on tuna fishing to save them from extinction. Other fish species are similarly threatened. Your article, though informative regarding gastronomic delights, fail to critically evaluate the impact on world fishing stocks by the increasing popularity of sushi and the attendant number of sushi restaurants worldwide.

South Africans have been told that GDP growth is vital to our country's continued viability, but all that does is encourage increased consumption. When we've degraded our environment to the point where our continued existence is threatened (and this will happen far sooner than people suspect), looking back on nights out such as yours will be treated with disbelief and even horror.

I cannot really offer a solution in your context except perhaps to say that platforms such as mamba should be used for more than just lifestyle journalism and advertising. Providing some balance would be a good idea.

Yes, but.... Being a sushi fan myself, it was hard to swallow (no pun intended) the comment on depleting fish stock. Be it as it may, what alternatives are there for non-meat protein intake? I'd appreciate a suggestion or two...
