A really great movie undermined somewhat by historical inaccuracies and the deletion of key events that were were clearly controversial and may not have portrayed Harvey Milk as so “nice.” Watch the excellent “The Times of Harvey Milk” by Rob Epstein and you’ll see an entirely different man, one who is actually more compelling because of his contradictions. After all, does a man really have be “nice” to accomplish great things? And why do gay filmmakers feel the need to sanitise gay icons to make them palatable to mainstream audiences? Long live Harvey, warts and all!
