Audi A3 and S3. In the S3 the ride is quite firm due to the nature of the car – suspension’s been stiffened to increase dynamics and handling, and low profile tyres of course. However, it’s remarkably comfortable. Same with the A3 convertible. Our test model had the sport package fitted, so it was equally firm compared to the S3. However there’s no scuttle shake like in the old convertibles, and dynamically it’s right up there. Both are perfectly comfortable for normal urban and highway commuting, but does get a much much on bad roads (like the ones going to Hartbeespoort).

Ride comfort. Thanks for the info Christo. I have been in some very expensive and exclusive sedans lately of which the ride quality and comfort do not quite match that of say a Golf 5 or a Renault Scenic – both cars costing less that half. Therefore my question. Regards, Jaco

Ride comfort. I hear you, Jaco! I always try to keep in mind the inerent nature of the car, but sometimes it’s inexplicable why so-called luxury cars – which cost an arm and a leg – has such a shocking ride quality. Thankfully there are cars that do not disappoint – Jaguar’s XF being one.
