..... I like this article! I have an eleven year old German Shepherd and she is the love of my life. I've had her since she was two months old and I do everything to make her happy & comfortable, especially now as old age sets in with all its problems i.e. arthritis, hip problems and slight loss of hearing. She is my constant companion and I'm blessed to have her. Look forward to reading more!

PETS, NOT KIDS. Dogs (and other pets) are a great addition to a household and lifestyle. As I say: Dogs are not my whole life, but they make my life whole. And most importantly I find one has to distinguish between dogs and kids. Dogs might be suspected of having human traits but one should never forget that they are animals. Animals that have different needs to humans. Dogs shouldn't be seen as our "kids". Friends? Yes. Companions? Yes. Humans? No. Did you know that many human foods are really poisonous to dogs? Things like salt, chocolate, raisins or sugar! Keep them away from your pooches!<br>

Agree. Totally agree, especially about the food. I think an article should be done on the dangers of feeding human food to pets as well as listing potential health risks involved. I know a lot of pet owners who are oblivious to the dangers. I've also seen many pet owners who think having a fat dog / cat is funny! Obesity for animals and humans is not funny nor healthy. My german shepherd hasn't tasted human food, except for the odd bone from a roast, and she is healthy at 11 yrs. Almost all pet foods these days are catered for the needs of animals so there is no need to subsitute their diet with human food.

Pets' food. I agree. Things like chocolate are poisonous to dogs. Get your dog on a good, healthy diet advised by your vet and stick to it!
