The man may have been bisexual but this guy’s biography really makes Malcolm X seem pathetic. I find the article insulting. Malcom was dominated by women, far from macho so beaten up….I mean waht the F#%# Are these supposed to be gay characteristics???? Really now!

It depends on your definition. Although Louganis “looks white”, he is of Samoan and Swedish descent. Many people, especially in the US, define anyone that is not of entirely European heritage as being “black”. There are usually no separate definitions as we have in South Africa between “coloured” and “black people”. In the US, someone who is of mixed heritage is often described as black. It’s all silly semantics I guess. We’re all just people. And black, coloured, mixed or white – Louganis is a fox!

In reply to Rolando. I know that definition. I know that - the "one drop of black blood" adage. E.g. Obama in terms of our understandings, is so-called coloured, having a white mother.

But for Thatchell, who is British and not American, equating Louganis to an African-American is going a bit too far. He is neither African nor really American.

People balked at calling Charlise Theron African-American (which she really is), but call her South African-American.

Semantics, as you say, but Louganis does not fit.
