In reply to M. Reason?. I guess the reason it's on a Saturday is because the after party might not be that effective on a Sunday night and if the after (pre) party were to be held the night before (sat) we might miss a lot of attendees...

In reply to Business. I fully agree. I fully agree with you on this. We were a bunch of people attending pride. So now we sitting with over R300 of tokens we can't used. What now. This is just a money making thing and they using the gay community for it.

Tokens...and disrespect.. Come now people. I am also a businessman, so I like you am a fan of making money through hard work, transparency and customer respect. After a wonderful march, I could not help but feel complete disrespect. I was fortunate not to have anything on me at the gate, so I was not treated with the disdain others were. I personally witnessed unnecessary aggression directed at marchers, and demands that they discard their water, drinks and food before entering. This after a long walk, in extremely hot weather. The fact that there were no water points along the way, made complete sense when introduced to the pink tokens.

In the end after a long wait for a handful of tokens, I was equally distressed to find how prices had been inflated. R15 for a soft drink, which retails for R8, amount to to nothing more than excessive and unnecessary profiteering. I was left feeling used, unappreciated and commercially exploited, by the very people I had ironically come to support.

This cannot be allowed to continue.

Why saturday?. Could Pride ever be held on a Sunday? Most of us jewish gays/lesbians cannot attend until sunset for religious reasons. So we basically only go out to the afterparties. Just a thought – I know its a democarcy!
