I love that word finally. It sounds like a forced decision without a backbone. Politics is a dirty game. What people will do to win votes? Christian or not makes no difference in politics and not everyone believes in God, and I doubt thats how he got voted in. What I have seen and heard, hes not high on the popularity charts. He only wants the gay population to vote for him. JUJU plays that same games, causes trouble and runs to the church for prayer that does not make him a Christian. Scripture says even demons believe in God and tremble with fear. Christianity and politics dont mix and should stay away far from each other. Its great to finally see progress, but how did this final decision take place, one can only wonder what the motive was, I hate fickle people.

Sadly I agree that it is a wise political move … not truly born out of principle, but then again still a significant statement which may improve life for LGBT people in the US!

I for one am greatful for Obama stance, regardless of it is staged or or not. It’s totally understandable why he’s nervous, his ass is on the line n the weight of responibility for his country n the world can’t be ignored. I’ve seen foogate of how him and his wife handled the families of soldiers. I think he’s the most real world leader I’ve seen… probably ever. He addressed another thing that was pretty important (which I personally believe it is long overdue) he told the world he was being a Christian a true blue Christian, the real sense of the word unlike those undercover homo preachers who abuse Christianity to hide thier own sexuallity. Someone is actually using Christanity for its intended purpose, a world learder at that. That’s worth being hopeful about. True we can never dimiss the fact that he’s in politics n they can use anything for gain. So all u cynical people out there ask urselves this, do Obama’s his words benifit just himself or all of us?

I’m appalled by the cynicism displayed by some of the commentators on this site. Surely this has got to be one of the most selfless things a politician has ever done. May I remind you people that it’s election year in America. Do you folks know that half the country is against gay marriage? Do you know how much this man is risking by supporting gay rights not just in America but the world over? These crazy accusations that you make lead me to wonder if you have any sort of political awareness and what this means to gay rights.

He is the only American president to ever speak against homophobia in Africa. He is the most influential leader in the world. His opinion makes a world of difference in gay rights, particularly for us Africans. Perhaps you cynical bunch need to take a minute to ponder before you shoot off on your keyboard. Let’s learn to appreciate those on our side.

Agreed. He has taken a big risk by coming out for gay marriage in an election year. It’s clear that he was shocked by the amount of people who voted against gay marriage in N. Carolina. This won’t gain him any votes – most gays probably would vote for him anyway. If anything, he will lose votes…

Geez, guys stop being so negative. To make a statement like this during an election year is very risky. He could have taken the politically correct party line. I dont care whether staged, forced or whatever. For the sake of all people in America pray that he get re-elected because his republican opponent has openly stated that he is opposed to gay marriage. Based on early predictions he is going to wipe his opponent – I hope so
