1 in 9 were clearly looking for confrontation to get noticed and hijack pride. They can organize their own pride if they want to and get all of 20 people attending and nobody noticing. It is not as if the issues they are highlighting don’t resonate with all gays.

Come to the party in a proper way – or stay out of it. We will fight violence against black lesbians – and all LGBTI – but not with people like 1in9. They shame us.

The UK is having the same discussion – what are the pride marches all about – well nothing because we have the rights so now it’s just a party?! No there are people dying everywhere because of homophobic attitudes – until everyone is safe and can live their lives without fear of prejudice we should not be having parties in the streets but rather parades to fight for ‘freedom’!

Pride should rather happen every day in your home, office, shop, church etc – no we are not siblings or friends we are lovers – once people get comfortable with that, then it’s time to party..
