it seems clear tha Ms Ally is being economical with the truth. Pride returning “to its roots”: we know that Pride was hosted in the square opposite the Mrket Theatre long before that Square became known as Mary Fitzgerald Square, and that people processed through Joubert Park, Hillbrow and Yeoville. This was prior to our rights being confirmed through the series of Test Cases in the Con Court. Now, years later, Ms Ally cannot feel that “we” will be safe in New Town? This pathetic pseudo-concern is very far from teh resourcefulness and courage of thsoe of us who recall participating in earlier Pride Parades, who were part of the roots to which Ms Ally claims to be returning “us.” Like other posts, I doubt very much whether some version of Pride will indeed take place in late October. If it does, I will not attend. Sandton????? Our “roots”? it is a pathetic, cowardly charade that people are fobbed off with gestures at “security issues” when, in fact, this bunch of “organizers” are simply inept and, now, it appears, dishonest as well.

Excuses aside, it is the LGBTI community suffers when events like this are (dis)organised in such a poor fashion. Many people travel to Joburg to attend Pride and lost out on air tickets and other costs when it was postponed at the last minute, which I doubt will enspire confidence in the event in future . It’s also getting rather close to the 26th of October and details of the Sandon venue have still not been announced which is worrying as it indicates futher organisational issues. On a positive note however, I was pleased to hear that by most accounts Pretoria Pride went off well this weekend.

Well done on moving Pride to Sandton! Newtown is unsafe, this community did not support Pride in Newown, now they unsupportive about Pride in Sandton. The only issue I have with this write up – SAPS acknowledge crime in at events yet deney telling Kaye? How is it possible that Kaye would name a member of SAPS that provided this information, that person acknowledges the issue yet denies speaking to Kaye? SAPS , JoC and Newtown management know the area is a problem for paying events. Pride is a FREE GAY event we would have been easy targets! Great work Kaye and the team! You putting a Pride together in terrible circustances. That after Tanya and co run away with all Pride Money!

I think Kaye should cancel Pride altogether and tell you moffies to go F&^% yourself I read all these comments and wonder how much have these side line commentors invested in Pride. You people should be ashamed of yourself for this behaviour. Firstly Pride must be a free event, lord help the event organisers if entrance is charged. Than it must be a a fabulous event realising full well that there was no money or sponsorships until planning planning started in June. I think give the circumstances I will attend Pride, because this is someone thats getting out there and trying to make a difference. Not bitching and moaning. Fany events take place in Newtown, These fancy events come with a Price Tag? This what i dont get about this gay community, they will pay to go just about anything, but when it comes to Pride – Pride must be the best and it must be for FREE…

Nothing about this story makes any sense. If people really attacked Ally I hope they face the full force of the law but about the reasons for postponing pride, who is she trying to kid. Fancier events take place in Mary F square week in week out than Pride. I would be surprised is Sandton Pride ever happens but if it is I hope anyone with any principles will stay away. People’s Pride yesterday was a huge success, it felt like remembering what Pride is meant to be for the first time in years and to see so many people come out made my heart sing. Well done to all the organisers and thank you to all the participants. Can’t wait for next year.

thank you mamba for getting to the bottom of this. really not worth reading more about what this woman is trying to do. the fact that “Shaun Harrison told Mambaonline that JOC was not able to approve the event as Pride organisers “hadn’t finalised the venue permissions. We couldn’t engage with them until the venue [Mary Fitzgerald Square] gives permission”, says everything that was suspected. And this is the week before the event. No confidence that Oct’s date will be pulled off. Good luck though

Too little, Too late…. By the looks of things the majority of LGBT patrons will be attending the PTA Pride this weekend. Its an absolute travesty that the organisers of this event where so poorly prepared and then tried to put it down to petty crime in the area. But as per all things in this country its comes down to mud slinging and pathetic in fighting. So I’m sure that I speak for a lot of us in the LGBT community when I say “THANKS Kay Ally for ruining Pride for all this year, and we sincerely hope that you will NOT be in charge of arranging next years Pride, Because then it probably won’t happen or be postponed into eternity.”

I wont be attending your half hearted Pride March in Sandton in October… Id rather spend my money somewhere else!!!
