After reading all the above comments – I have this to say: The blonde guy in pictures 10 and 11 is very good looking, and I think it’s awesome these guys can go out in their speedos for a good cause. God knows it would take a lot to get me into a speedo in public… Few years old past that bench mark. LOL!

So in 2013 in Johannesburg, South Africa, this event featured only white men as objects of desire in a country where the overwhelming majority of gay men are Black, and then the claim is this event was held to “help out” in a human rights cause? Wow. Just when one thought the iconography of white supremacist notions of sexual desire couldn’t be more crude, and the political repulsion of linking this performance of whiteness to the difficult issue of “corrective rape” more blatant …

Then again, the nostalgic fantasy of “Beefcakes” is to hark back to a time (and allow patrons to do the same, one imagines) when the world of South African queerness could be configured and represented by white masculine bodies only. That Manhunt allies itself with these exclusionary practices in 2013 speaks volumes for the distance queer liberation still has to go to uncouple itself from misogyny and racism.

The event offered car washes by the Beefcakes staff to raise money for the "corrective rape" organisation Luleki Sizwe in CT. We think it was all in good fun and for a great cause.
