GALLERY: LESOTHO GAYS MARCH FOR EQUALITY

Advertorial

Lesotho’s LGBT community marked the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT) on May 17 by holding a colourful march through Maseru. Around 200 people took part in the procession, which concluded with speeches and performances at the Maseru Club.

Organised by LGBT rights organisation, the Matrix Support Group, the gathering follows on last year’s Lesotho IDAHOT march – the country’s first LGBT Pride event.

According to the International Lesbian and Gay Association, sex between men was legalised in Lesotho with the adoption of a new penal code in 2012, although some confusion remains. LGBT people have no specific protections.
