The article notes he was previously convicted for rape and does not actually say that the alleged killer raped her because she was lesbian.

Not that lesbians are not discriminated against (we all know the stories of rapes used to ‘cure’ lesbians) but that does not justify assuming that any attack against a lesbian woman was due to discrimination against lesbians/gays. Let’s fight discrimination but not by labelling every crime a hate crime just to cause drama and awareness.
