This is a great article. It furthers the discussion on being responsible with your sexual health and that of you partner, and the resources available to gay men. Personally my fears of catching an STI from a sexual partner outweighed my embarrassment of discussing issues of sexual health with my doctor, after all they may judge but doctor patient confidentiality is still guaranteed.

There's a lot of information online regarding sexual health for gay men if you take the time to look. Having done the research I got vaccinated against Hep A and Hep B, both can be sexually transmitted. Both cost under R250 a shot at this time . A vaccine is also available against HPV which can still protect gay men against strains of HPV they have not contracted if they are already sexually active. HPV can lead not only to cervical but also anal cancer.
It's great that there are free clinics looking after the needs of gay men but I'm uncertain of how accessible they are to young gay men. Those that aren't able to reach them should know that the basics of looking after your health which is getting an HIV test regularly can be done at a Dischem for R75 currently.
There needs to be more education on these topics targeted at young gay men. The young gay men I know seem to think that their own judgment is all they need to protect their health when the truth is that when it comes to STD 's you cant tell that a person is infected just by looking at them.
