Whilst the country prides itself of being “the home of the brave and the land of the free” this apparently only applies if you are white, straight, christian and fit the mould of the conservative, prudish mid-western. Anything that falls outside of these rather narrow “norms” is generally not protected. Under the guise of “religious freedom”, lawmakers are constantly pushing for new legislation that would in fact broaden the grounds for discrimination against LGBT people in the US. The fact that such laws are put forward and even discussed shows just how much of a backwater the US really is in many aspects.
How a country with great minds that produces such a wealth of advancement in the fields of science can have such a split personality boggles the mind.
Many Americans were, and continue to be, conservative, prudish people who left Europe all those years ago and have not moved on since.
