The point raised by Manur is the option to take. If parents are able to monitor the whereabouts of their children, who they play with, when, how, it is likely that we can avoid such to happen. How can a 15- year old boy stab an older person? Was he taught how to love others? The important question is to investigate the background of the 15-year old boy. Did he grow up with his father and mother? Was the father at home, loving, nonviolent, responsible, how long did the father stay with the child at home etc.? Youth violence (i.e young people between 14-35 years, see South Africa Youth Policy) is high and most crimes are committed by this age group. What to do? It is possible to shift the mindset of the youth especially the most violent ones i.e. young men by training them to become responsible, loving and nonviolent men or fathers. It is possible as well that if South Africa wants to build a peaceful society, it has to BUILD STRONG FAMILIES. Building strong families happens when parents have control of their children, wihch the government, NGOs, CBOs, phylanthropic organisations and other privates structures need to get involved for that to happen. Also, implemetning policies that uplift the well-being of communities to aleviate poverty, to enhance educational opportunities etc. need to be looked at. Thank you.

Nothing will become of this 15 year old, nothing will happen to the guy who handed him a knife in the first place.
these homophobic voilence starts from home, children arent thought to respect others, children arent being raised properly, their allowed to act like fools, because its "oulik" its just a child.
I often wonder, what happened to the love a parent felt for their child the day the child was born? Did it just vanish over time, have they just gotten tired of that child exsistance? If u love your child, especially in rural enviroments, u protect ur child, under ur guidance ur child is to be visible, not somewhere where u need to shout and ask someone where the child is.

RIP to the victim and all the innocent LGTB people who have lost their lives to these patethic events.

This is seriously disturbing... That 15 year old teen was probably loitering at the shop - so he is likely already a "skollie" - and if the man could hand him a knife - then he is also a "skollie". They probably belong to the same gang... And this sort of thing is very prevalent in the disadvantaged communities... And the teen have been released on bail into the custody of his grandmother! Where is his parents? Stop the madness please!
