LMFAO this is so funny and infuriating. There was no case of “one on top of another” when all this was reported. They just said kissing was prohibited, only when Spur’s CEO was contacted and said there’s nothing like a prohibition of kissing did “one on top of another” came up. Wow

Extract from Pretoria East Rekord article: “Customers are not allowed to kiss. It has nothing to do with being gay,” said Gambule. He conceded the Spur had no warning sign on the wall against kissing. “There is no sign but it is a family restaurant and people need to follow the rules…”

Oh, so are customers supposed to guess what your rules are, Mr Gumbule? And to have customers thrown into a cell for objecting? Really! Be reasonable, but apparently that is asking too much.

“Nelson Gambule, who was out at the time of the incident, told the newspaper that kissing of any kind was prohibited in the family establishment.

“Customers are not allowed to kiss. It has nothing to do with being gay,” he said. Gambule also insisted that group were justifiably escorted out for “misbehaving”.

“Do they think it’s appropriate to insult managers? If they were only kissing, they should have stopped,” he argued.”

This is fucking bullshit, #Spur !

1) you as a social business cannot ‘prohibit’ kissing
2) you cannot claim that ‘customers kissing is prohibited’ and then ONLY make a fuss when it is a gay couple kissing, and
3) where are all the hetero couples who have been thrown out of Spur for kissing – or do hetero couples suddenly not kiss in public?

In all my time as a customer visiting Spur, I have seen many people of all kinds there, many of them have kissed in the context of their visit, be it parties, socials or dating – as have I – and NEVER have I heard of or witnessed a Spur staffer sticking her neck out to whine about “customers not being allowed to kiss”!

Wind your necks in, Spur – and apologize!

Spur head office should boot this bigoted store out of their franchise.
