To quote Dr Martin Luther King: “Men hate each other because they fear each other, they fear each other because they don’t know each other and they don’t know each other because they are mostly separated from each other.” Suggestions to combat this hatred, fear and misunderstanding from this ministry are : (1) cross the physical boundaries to overcome the social boundaries, (2) avoid the tendency to only associate with like-minded institutions/people And interact with people who hold differing opinions. Cape Town is a very segregated city, and this creates a backdrop to which groups interacts only with like-minded groups to the exclusion of others. They approve each other only, they are excluded from the global conversation of inclusion resulting in extreme opinions. Social group polarization (and social construction) gone terribly wrong. Maybe the debate was not such a bad idea. Maybe the objective is not to change the opinion of the pastor. But to provide an opportunity for those more reasonable and more compassionate to begin a different dialogue in this polarized group that will demonstrate how absurd, illogical, and immoral the fear-based hateful views are. Views peddled by a deeply damaged soul, at his worst a populist charlatan.
I appreciate how this article does not name anyone, because I firmly believe the media should stop providing a platform to these these terrible men and internet trolls to peddle their hate and prejudice.

Interesting article -I disagree with this article Mathew is it not easier to just sit back and do nothing ? how ever I disagree with this Pastor in the Cape ( refer to the previous articles on Pastor Anderson) This so called Preacher is promoting hate speech and the motivation, for LGBTI persons to be murdered.- I for one will under no conditions except this and if necessary , I have challenged him and awaiting his response – guess what ? no reply – he has shut his mouth – his best move , I will await any further comments from him that are against myself and other LGBTI persons in South Africa and I will challenge him in Court with a criminal case !!
