The IPU. I'd never heard of it. I had to look it up. So here's some (probably uninformed) perspective. It's been around since 1889. It predates the United Nations and was then the first global forum for nations to negotiate, arbitrate and co-operate. It established the United Nations. Thus over time its role changed to promoting peace and democracy, on earth basically. Most of the countries of the world (except the USA) are members. And that's really my point. I don't see a whole lot of peace and democracy around in those members. So a flip side to this vote is - what if there was a vote in favour of discussing the ensuring of LGBTQI rights? What would change in the countries of these wonderfully peaceful and "democratic" countries like Uganda, Somalia, Iran, Saudi, Russia, China etc?? Absolutely nothing! These countries just kill their own people when it suits their political ends. So either way, this is all a little moot. I do, however, fear that countries like Uganda will overemphasize this vote as propaganda. And that's dangerous.

And then just one more growing irritation I have: with China conducting itself the way it does, why the hell was China awarded the privilege of hosting the Gay Games in 2022???? They were also the host country for the Mr Gay World 2019 - but that has since, correctly so, been revoked.

I'll say it again, these people only care when they're discriminated against - then it's boo-hoo and all the rest. To some degree, the orange man in the White House is correct; Uganda is a shit hole.
