5 LGBTQI series on Showmax to binge-watch this long weekend

Local online streaming service Showmax has a great range of LGBTQIA+ content available, and also offers a number of series focusing on queer stories. If you were wondering what to watch this long weekend, wonder no more – here are five series that are just waiting to be binge-watched.

The L Word: Generation Q

When The L Word debuted in 2004, it featured US television’s first ensemble cast depicting homosexual, bisexual and transgender people. 15 years after the series first aired and 10 years after it ended, The L Word: Generation Q features a new setting and a host of new, diverse characters, together with the ones you fell in love with years ago.

The Boulet Brothers Dragula

Look, this certainly isn’t RuPaul’s Drag Race. In this reality show, the gloves are off as monster queens duel to win the ultimate prize and be crowned Dragula, the World’s First Drag Supermonster. You might have seen drag shows before, but you probably haven’t witnessed anything like this!

Euphoria is a high school drama series made for adults. 17-year-old Rue (played by none other than Zendaya) returns home from rehab, but it isn’t her intention to stick to the straight and narrow. New girl, Jules, immediately catches Rue’s eye. This series, which was nominated for a GLAAD Media Award this year, among a range of others awards, shows us the full scope of the modern high school experience – expect sex, drugs, trauma, identity, friendship and love (not necessarily in that order).

Finding Prince Charming

This The Bachelor-esque reality show sees 13 suitors vying for the attention of one eligible bachelor. As all the handsome hopefuls share a house, you can be sure there will be a touch of drama. The show is presented by former NSYNC member, Lance Bass.

Somizi and Mohale: The Union

How does one of the most high-profile queer celebrity weddings come together? Somizi and Mohale: The Union shows all the drama and extravagance of Somizi Mhlongo and Mohale Motaung’s nuptials – no less than two ceremonies – and gives us mere mortals an insider’s look at the love that exists between these two stylish local celebs.
