I recently moved back to Durban after a 22 year absence. I remember Durbans colorful gay community from the early days of 3.30(before it had a booze licence) ,Riveria Hotel and the Late Night Gallion. I have done JHB pride and many Cape Town prides and so i am shocked at the gay life in Durban. There is hardly any gay venues or gatherings. I have asked a number of locals and they all say one thing. Durbans Gay life is non existant. There is even this reluctance to meet a Grindr pick up in public. Its like things have regressed , been gay in Durban thease days one feels like a outcast. Looking at the cover photo of Durban pride i see Lola Fine leading the way. Lola fine is a well respected and an icon from Cape Town ,real glad that at least Durban had a bit of sparkle for Pride.
Where is Durbans Gay Culture?
