Plans are underway for Cape Town Pride 2023, with the official launch event set to take place next month.
It’s also been confirmed that the big day itself is scheduled for the 4th of March 2023 at Green Point Track, so save the date!
According to the organisers, Outreach Africa, applications to hold the event have been submitted to the City of Cape Town and are being processed.
Outreach Africa has further announced that the long-standing director of Cape Town Pride, Matthew Van As, has resigned, citing health issues.
The organisation revealed that Wenzel April is the new Festival Director, and said “we wish him well in the huge task he is undertaking, and we look forward to support from the LGBT+ community in the City in this endeavour”.
Wenzel might be better known as his drag persona, Wendy LaRosa, who has in the past held the coveted title of Miss Cape Town Pride. Wenzel currently sits on the management committee of the sexual health NGO, Impulse.
The official launch event will take place on Saturday, 26 November 2022, and will once again be hosted at the Embassy of Belgium Consular residence in Newlands.
The Pride working committee as well as representatives from the Embassy of Belgium and other notable dignitaries will be present at the event.
It will be a day of celebration with live performers on stage, bars and stalls. The Pride 2023 calendar of events and ticket sales information for the Pride Festival day on 4 March 2023 will be released. A lucky entrant will win a place on the LGBT+ cruise, happening in Pride month 2023.
The Pride Launch is limited to 1000 people. More details will be announced on all social media platforms and the Cape Town Pride website in the next few weeks.
